How much does a home sauna cost?
A home sauna costs from about $500 for an infrared blanket to $4,000–$9,000 for an indoor or barrel sauna kit, and over $10,000 for an outdoor cabin, at the list prices we checked in November 2026. Most traditional saunas also need a 240-volt circuit put in by an electrician. Running one costs a dollar or two per session.
List prices we checked
These are the regular prices on the maker's or a retailer's product page in November 2026. Sale prices are left out, and we have not tested any of these saunas. Retailers' "regular" prices can be reference prices that the product rarely sells at, so treat them as an upper guide.

Some makers, such as Finnleo, only give prices through dealers, so they are not in the table.
What else you pay for
- Electrical work. Traditional heaters of 4.5 kW and up run on 240 volts and are hard-wired, and the heater makers' manuals say a licensed or certified electrician must do the wiring. Small infrared cabins plug into a dedicated 120-volt circuit. See home sauna electrical requirements.
- A base outdoors. Barrel and cabin saunas need a level, solid base. What that costs depends on your yard.
- Electricity. At the US average price of 18.16 cents per kWh, a session in a 6 kW sauna uses roughly $1 to $2 of power. Work out your own number with the sauna running cost calculator.
- Assembly. Kits arrive as panels or staves. The retailer listing for the Almost Heaven Grayson, for example, estimates about six hours for two people.
Is it cheaper than going to a bathhouse?
At the places we list, a single sauna visit costs a median of about $45 across US cities, so a $5,000 to $7,000 home sauna equals well over a hundred visits before you count wiring. We run the numbers for each city in home sauna vs bathhouse visits.
